While I'm Thinking About It

Of course, I'm also surprised nobody ever asked, "Senator Obama, your campaign has all the momentum of a runaway train. Why are you so popular?"

It occurs to me, as we head into the final moments of this campaign, that, to my knowledge, neither John Sidney McCain III nor Barack Hussein Obama II were asked the one simple question that would have gotten straight to the heart of their inner selves.

"Why are you running?"

Not "Why are you the most qualified?" Definitely not "Why is your opponent so blatantly unsuited for the office?" Just, "Why are you running."

I can think of a handful of answers. The most honest would be "I want the power."

The most frightening? "I deserve it."
