But, let's face it, last Friday's strip was really rather obscure. Frequent commentator mjay did me the favor of posting Psalm 119:147 as it is seen in the Geneva Bible. The KJV is nearly identical:

I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.
A somewhat more modern translation, the American Standard Version of 1901, renders it thus:
I anticipated the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy words.
And the English Standard Version is even more straightforward:
I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words.

My main point with these strips has been putting together a situation where Bob gets to be the underinformed oddball customer. But it is interesting to see how language changes over the course of several hundred years.
